Laboratory Services

Genetics

The Genetics Lab’s services encompass a wide array of molecular genetic and genomic analyses. It has sets of DNA markers for purity and hybridity testing of crops such as corn, coconut, tomato, mango, and banana. It also provides services for DNA barcoding and bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The laboratory is well-equipped to handle specific services, including plant DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), as well as agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It’s crucial to note that while the IPB Genetics Laboratory strives to accommodate all service requests, approvals are contingent upon factors such as sample volume, plant species, and the carrying capacity of the laboratory, among others. The services function of the lab is operating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Analytical services

The CAFS-IPB Analytical Services Laboratory (CAFS-IPB ASL) caters to students and researchers in government and private institutions. It offers a range of analytical services to help people better understand and improve the nutritional quality of plant and plant products. It conducts nutritional profiling (proximate composition, carbohydrates, minerals, amino acids, vitamins and phytochemicals), soil and fertilizer analyses (pH, organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium), and consultancy services. Valuing precision, reliability, and expertise, the laboratory is equipped with advanced technology and experienced professionals which ensure accurate results. They prioritize quality control and offer innovative solutions, making them a trusted partner for analytical needs.

PLANT PHYSIOLOGY

Plant Physiology Laboratory works closely with plant breeders in the development of abiotic stress resilient crops, and nutrient use efficient crops. With the help of its experts, the lab identifies and selects promising lines that could benefit both breeders/researchers and farmers towards climate-smart crops. The laboratory offers various services such as soil and tissue analysis (analysis (pH, organic matter, N, P, and K in support of CAFS-IPB ASL), establishment of fertilizer recommendations based on your current farm’s needs, and consultation for fertilizer management (Maize and Cassava) and hydroponics production system. It also caters to students and other researchers from various institutions and agencies with root and shoot phenotyping queries (i.e., root scanning, leaf area). The Physio Lab are very willing to assist constituents in any way they could and collaborate towards productivity and sustainability.

Plant cell and tissue culture

Part of the Plant Cell and Tissue Culture (PCTC) Laboratory’s thrust is to develop tissue culture technologies for micropropagation of clean planting materials, in vitro screening and selection for biotic and abiotic stresses, germplasm in vitro conservation, and conventional and new breeding techniques. PCTC offers the following services: production of clean planting material for specific crops such as banana and sugarcane; plant tissue culture protocol development; and consultation on plant tissue culture technologies.
