“If you want to be a blessing in your place of work, be a compassionate leader and team member, do your work with integrity, be men and women of character, and work with competence,” said Ms. Emmaloisa “Maloi” Malibiran-Salumbides, an inspirational speaker and founder and CEO of Wise Up Global Training and Equipping Ministry, Inc., a company that provides training and equipping to make teams resilient and productive amidst changing times.

The one-hour motivational lecture titled “How to Be a Blessing in the Workplace?” held on March 21, 2024, was organized by the seminar committee of the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) as part of the continuous personal and professional development of the institute’s workforce.

“On top of the benefits and privileges that we are enjoying, a lot of opportunities await us as we deliver more than what is expected of us. Whatever your position is, you are a very important part of the institute, which is why we are conducting this kind of activity for you to feel your value in the institute and the entire university,” expressed IPB Director Fe M. de la Cueva in her remarks.

Maloi shared her experiences that made her what she is today, which inspired the participants. She also encouraged the staff to always do their best and love their job. “Never ever underestimate the power of lowly positions, even if you are still in the rank-and-file status of your career. Do not hate small and simple beginnings and embrace places of obscurity because that is your training ground to become leaders of this institute in the future,” she said.

The significance of hearing, listening, and supporting colleagues was highlighted in the seminar that could possibly make a positive difference in someone’s life. “Lead with compassion because we live in a very difficult world today where we see a lot of people suffering and struggling with mental health issues. It does not help when we compare the past and the present,” she added. Furthermore, she emphasized that willingness is the key to becoming a channel of blessings in the workplace.

Maloi wears many hats. She is a broadcaster and has radio programs (Protips and Masayang Tahanan) that can be heard over the different radio stations of the Far East Broadcasting Company. She authored seven inspirational books for children and working professionals. Her children’s book “Tinola ni Nanay” won the National Children’s Book Awards Top 10 Best Reads for 2020-2021, while “The Best of Protips: Tips to Make You Shine at Work” became a certified National Bookstore bestseller. Apart from being a trainer and farm resort owner, Maloi is also the founder of Lord Heal Our Land, an online prayer group, and is active on the board of the Philippine Bible Society and Christians for National Building. Her family also serves in the family and worship ministries of Greenhills Christian Fellowship. (Dianne B. Ubaldo)
